About EIS Social Tanzania

The EIS Social of Tanzania has its origins in the late 1960s when a community of members began convening for significant religious occasions. Since then, our organization has evolved into a thriving Shia Muslim community, garnering recognition as a source of inspiration for other Muslim communities across the region.

Presently, the EIS Social of Tanzania proudly counts almost 4,500 member families, totaling approximately 7,000 individuals. The membership is predominantly, though not exclusively, composed of Shia Muslims of Indian origin from East Africa, bringing with them a rich history of worship, congregation, and community service.

Managing the affairs of a community of this scale necessitates dedication, organization, and a collective commitment to the principle of “being your neighbor’s keeper.” Reflecting this ethos, we have established multiple places of worship and community centers across Tanzania and surrounding emirates, with ongoing plans for expansion into other parts of the Tanzania.

In 1979, the EIS Social of Tanzania established the EIS Social Centre (ESC), which for many years held the distinction of being one of the most prominent mosques in the region. In 1994, the EIS Social of Tanzania acquired a large property with a vision to develop a multifaceted Islamic facility and complex. This vision materialized with the construction of the Jaffari Community Centre (JCC), a 165,000 square foot facility that includes a full double-gym, a substantial congregation area, classrooms, banquet halls, a library, bookstore, funeral facilities, and fitness amenities. Future plans include the development of a condominium building and a seniors’ residence to comprehensively address diverse community needs. Subsequently, additional centers such as the Masumeen Islamic Centre and the Razavi Community Centre were established, symbolizing years of hard work and dedication. The EIS Social of Tanzania also proudly supports the As-Sadiq Islamic School, founded in 1994, where children are educated from preschool (2.5 years) through grade 12, under Islamic values and academic excellence.

Today, our community effectively manages a wide range of functions essential to the operation of a vibrant and efficient organization, including burial services, youth programs, community publications, library services, seniors’ initiatives, and more.

The Board of Directors of the EIS Social of Tanzania extends its deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of staff and volunteers who serve the community with dedication. Furthermore, the EIS Social of Tanzania considers itself blessed to be supported by a membership that values excellence and continually contributes toward achieving our collective mission.
